Angel Teta has quite literally grown up in restaurants. Her first job at the young age of 10 in her Mom’s pizza place started a lifelong career in hospitality. From high volume clubs to craft cocktail joints to James Beard nominated restaurants, she excelled at creating a welcoming ambience and a place where people always felt comfortable when sitting at her bar.
After following a dream to open a bar in Portland, Oregon 14 years ago, she immersed herself in the city’s emerging cocktail culture. Years spent working hard behind the stick and volunteering for drink festivals around the country led to many opportunities to further her spirit knowledge. She has traveled abroad to study vermouths in Spain, Cognacs in France, Whisky in Ireland, Bourbon Whiskey in Kentucky, Rum in Jamaica, Tequila in Mexico, and Vodka in Sweden. She has also accumulated an impressive slate of awards: Eater Portland’s “Bartender of the Year,” Miss Speed Rack Northwest (twice!), Tales of the Cocktail competition champ, and Star Chef Rising Star Portland. She is also a graduate of the prestigious BAR 5-Day program.
Presently, she is the National Whiskey Guardian for Angel’s Envy Whiskies. After working part time with them for 8 years, an opportunity for a full-time career arose and she gladly signed on. Even though she isn’t behind a bar anymore, the spirit of hospitality remains in her soul, and she revels in creating moments and memories through cocktails & good times shared with new friends & old.
